Ages 3–7

High above the world, where the clouds are as soft as cotton candy, lived a little owl named Lily.
Lily slept in the softest nest in the entire sky. The nest was made of fluffy clouds, thin twigs, and little stars that shone with a warm, golden light.
Every evening, Lily would wrap herself in a lavender blanket, rest her head on a soft pillow, and look at the moon.
“Good evening, Moon,” she whispered.
The moon smiled at her peacefully.
“Good evening, little Lily.”
That evening, the sky was exceptionally quiet. Clouds drifted slowly, stars twinkled lazily, and pink feathers swayed in the air.
Suddenly, one feather drifted right down onto Lily’s nose.
“Achoo!” the little owl sneezed.
The feather glowed with a delicate light.
“Oh my!” Lily said in surprise. “You are glowing!”
The feather moved slightly.
“I am the Feather of a Good Wish,” it said softly. “Every night, I can carry one good wish to the stars.”
Lily opened her eyes wide.
“One wish? Only one?”
“Yes,” the feather answered. “But it must be a really good one.”
Lily sat in her fluffy nest and began to think. First, she thought:
“I would like to have the biggest blanket in the world!”
But she looked at her lavender blanket. It was warm, soft, and just enough.
“No,” she said. “My blanket is already loved.”
Then she thought:
“I would like a basket full of berries!”
But she remembered that a tummy should rest before bedtime.
“No,” she murmured. “The berries can wait until morning.”
The feather floated beside her patiently.
“You don’t have to rush, Lily. Good wishes like peaceful hearts.”
Just then, a quiet sobbing came from a nearby cloud.
Sniff… sniff…
Lily peeked her head out of the nest.
Sitting on a small cloud was Purr the Star. She was tiny and shone dimmer than the others.
“What happened?” Lily asked gently.
Purr the Star sighed.
“I am still little. Other stars shine brightly, and I only shine a little bit. I’m afraid no one will notice me.”
Lily looked at her with tenderness.
“But I noticed you.”
“Really?” the star asked.
“Really. You shine just a little, but very nicely.”
Purr the Star smiled a tiny bit.
Lily returned to her nest and looked at the Feather of a Good Wish. She knew now.
“I want to wish for Purr the Star to feel important,” she said. “Because even a small light can brighten someone’s night.”
The feather trembled with joy.
“That is a very good wish.”
Lily closed her eyes, hugged her blanket, and whispered:
“May Purr the Star know that she is needed.”
The feather rose high, high above the nest. It twirled once, twice, and three times. Then it touched the little star.
Purr shone with a warm, soft glow. Not the strongest in the world. Not the brightest in the sky. But exactly as she should.
Her light fell upon Lily’s fluffy nest.
“Oh my,” whispered Lily. “Now my nest looks even cozier.”
Purr the Star beamed.
“Did I help?”
“Very much,” Lily said. “Your light is like a little nightlight.”
From that moment on, Purr the Star shone over Lily’s nest every night. She didn’t have to be the biggest. She didn’t have to be the brightest.
She was herself.
And that was enough.
Lily snuggled into her lavender blanket. The clouds wrapped the nest in soft fluff. The moon closed its silver eyes.
The Feather of a Good Wish floated down next to Lily and rested by her little wing.
“Goodnight, Lily,” it whispered.
“Goodnight, feather,” the owl replied.
“Goodnight, Purr the Star.”
“Goodnight,” the star twinkled.
And so the little owl fell asleep peacefully in her fluffy nest, under a sky full of quiet lights. And Purr the Star shone above her all night long.
Small.
Warm.
Important.
