Looking for coloring books for toddlers and preschoolers that match your child’s age?

A quick note before we start: every book on this page is our own. We are Booksaill, the publisher, and this is not a ranking of the best coloring books on the market. It is a guide to our seven coloring and activity books, sorted by the ages they were made for, so you can pick the right one for a 2-, 3-, 4- or 5-year-old without guessing.

All of them mix coloring with simple activities such as Search & Find, counting, matching or Spot the Difference, because that variety is what keeps little hands busy for longer than plain coloring pages.

  • For a 2-year-old: My First 100 Vehicles (1 or 2), My First 101 Animals or My First 101 Emotions. All four are made for ages 2–5.
  • For a 3-year-old: the same four, plus Summer Coloring Book 1 (ages 3–6) and the You Are My Hero Halloween book (ages 3–8).
  • For a 4-year-old: any of the above, plus You Are My Hero: Coloring & Activity Book (ages 4–8, 70+ pages).
  • For ages 5–8: Summer Coloring Book 1, the Halloween book and You Are My Hero, which have mazes and more varied puzzles.

Whatever brand you choose, a few things make a coloring book easier for young children:

  • Bold, simple outlines that are easier for small hands to color
  • Themes your child already loves, such as vehicles, animals or familiar faces
  • Short, simple activities next to the coloring: finding, counting, matching
  • Not too much on one page, so the child is not overwhelmed

For toddlers and preschoolers, books that combine coloring with light learning usually hold attention longer than plain coloring pages.

At two, children are just learning to hold a crayon, so the theme matters more than the activity. Pick something your child already points at and names: cars, animals, faces.

Our four books for ages 2–5 all start from a familiar theme and add simple Search & Find tasks.

Best for: toddlers who love cars, trucks, rescue vehicles and construction machines

Coloring with bold, easy outlines, plus Search & Find, Spot the Difference, counting and matching games and simple mazes. There is a certificate at the end to celebrate finishing the book.

Best for: kids who love airplanes, helicopters, boats, ships and submarines

The same idea as the first book, but in the sky and on the water. Thick lines and large spaces to color, with a small task on the pages, such as counting sailboats or finding the missing helicopter.

See inside My First 100 Vehicles 2

Best for: animal lovers

Friendly farm, forest and safari animals to color, with Search & Find challenges across the different habitats and a Certificate of Completion at the end.

See inside My First 101 Animals

Best for: a playful first look at feelings

Cute emoji characters to color, Search & Find, Match the Pairs and opposites activities (happy/sad, calm/angry, shy/brave). A gentle way to build early emotional vocabulary.

At three, most children can stay with a page a little longer and enjoy small challenges. All four books above still fit, and two more open up:

Best for: travel, vacations and rainy days

Smiling ice creams, sunny beaches and sea creatures, plus mazes, Spot the Difference and free drawing. Large 8.5" x 11" format with thick, clean lines.

Best for: October, classroom parties and gift bags

Count & Color games, Spot the Difference puzzles and friendly ghosts, pumpkins and brave bears. Festive, but not scary.

Four-year-olds can handle more pages and more variety. Everything above still works, and this is the age where our biggest book starts:

Best for: kids who want coloring plus a bit more challenge

More than 70 pages with cheerful animals, mazes, matching and Spot the Difference, plus activities that help children express their feelings. A Certificate of Achievement at the end.

See inside You Are My Hero

From five, children usually enjoy books with mazes and puzzles more than simple coloring. Our books for this age are Summer Coloring Book 1 (up to 6), the Halloween Activity & Coloring Book (up to 8) and You Are My Hero (up to 8). We don’t have coloring books made for 9–10 year olds yet.

If you are choosing for a whole group, this is how our books fit:

  • Ages 2–5 groups: the My First 100 Vehicles and My First 101 books. The vehicle and animal themes are easy for the whole group to recognize, and the Search & Find pages work as a quiet-time task.
  • Kindergarten (around 5–6): Summer Coloring Book 1 has mazes and Spot the Difference; the Halloween book adds Count & Color for October.
  • Pre-writing practice: our My First 100 Vehicles tracing book (ages 3–6) is not a coloring book, but it pairs well with one: line tracing, the alphabet and numbers 0–10 with vehicles.
  • Vehicles for kids who love cars, trucks, airplanes, boats or rescue vehicles
  • Animals for curious little explorers
  • Emotions for playful social-emotional learning
  • Summer for seasonal fun and travel
  • You Are My Hero for older kids who want more variety
  • Quiet time at home: animals, emotions, vehicles
  • Travel and restaurants: vehicles, summer
  • Gift idea: animals, emotions, You Are My Hero
  • Seasonal fun: summer or Halloween

Look for bold outlines and a theme your child already knows. From our books, My First 100 Vehicles (1 and 2), My First 101 Animals and My First 101 Emotions are made for ages 2–5.

All four books for ages 2–5 still fit. At three you can add Summer Coloring Book 1 (3–6) and the Halloween Activity & Coloring Book (3–8); at four, You Are My Hero (4–8, 70+ pages).

Yes. Coloring is a calm, screen-free activity that helps children practice holding a crayon, hand-eye coordination and focus, especially when it is mixed with simple tasks like counting, matching and spotting differences.

Start with your child’s age and favorite theme. Then look for bold, simple outlines and a few easy activities next to the coloring. The table at the top of this page lists the age range and activities of each of our books.

They can support early skills. Our books for ages 2–5 add Search & Find, counting, matching and opposites to the coloring pages, so children practice observation and early vocabulary while they color.

For groups of 2–5 year olds, the My First 100 Vehicles and My First 101 books work well because the themes are familiar to every child. For kindergarten, Summer Coloring Book 1 adds mazes and Spot the Difference.

Yes. Books with Search & Find and short activities are handy for car rides, flights, restaurants and rainy afternoons. Summer Coloring Book 1 was made with car trips, flights and rainy days in mind.
